Earlier this month, Scan Global Logistics (SGL), a Danish global logistics provider, just announced the acquisition of Sea-Air Logistics, a Hong Kong-based cargo forwarding services company. Recently, SGL announced the acquisition of a cargo forwarding services company and a logistics company in Europe.
According to the announcement, the two European companies acquired by SGL are Dutch Gelders Forwarding (Gelders), an air and ocean freight forwarder in the Netherlands, and Hungarian Advection Logistics (Advvection), a full-service logistics provider in Hungary. The price and size of the two companies were not disclosed.
According to SGL, Gelders Forwarding was established in 1964 as an independent cargo forwarding services company specializing in global air, sea and road freight services. Specialists in high-tech machinery, medical equipment, marine spare parts and live animal transportation.
Advection Logistics is a full-service logistics provider that brings together more than 20 years of global logistics expertise. Based at Budapest Airport, offering bonded warehousing and cross-delivery, including in-house customs solutions.
SGL said the acquisition of the two European companies was to expand its European organization and freight network. The acquisition of Gelders will significantly expand SGL's air freight services and strengthen its presence in the technology sector. At the same time, Advection will be SGL's first office in Hungary and provide a platform for its development in the region.
SGL said that Gelders' strong development in semiconductor logistics supports SGL's strategic focus on air freight and will further strengthen its strong position as a global logistics provider. SGL will significantly increase its market share and the combined organization will add more than 70 employees.
Already the logistics provider of choice for several well-known global technology brands, SGL's customer base will expand with the addition of Gelders' client list, many of which are in the same industry. Gelders will ensure that clients have access to a vast global industry knowledge and deep network of expertise from SGL professionals dedicated to providing first-class service. Gelders will also add live animal transportation to the versatile SGL portfolio.
SGL said the acquisition of Hungary-based logistics company Advection is in line with its global expansion strategy. Doing business locally allows SGL to forge closer ties with existing customers operating in and outside Hungary, offering better service and a simpler supply chain. In addition, Advection's proven capabilities, competencies and network provide excellent opportunities for SGL to further develop in the region.
"Through Advection, we share a highly commercialized approach and deep industry knowledge. We are therefore pleased to add its strong competencies in healthcare, automotive logistics and technology to ensure our customers are better served, and improve support for its business," EMEA CEO Lars Syberg said.
“With these two acquisitions, we are taking another step towards strengthening our European organization and foothold. We will continue to invest in European infrastructure, people and systems to support our global customers and provide streamlined logistics wherever they operate ” Lars Syberg concluded.
Scan Global said it aims to generate $5 billion in 2027 through organic growth and acquisitions, compared with $2.3 billion in 2021.
